AGRICULTURE:
A large number of residents in Burera District depend on agriculture for their livelihood. The priority crops selected for cultivation on consolidated land in Burera District are potatoes, wheat, beans, and maize.
Burera District has established strategies aimed at promoting agriculture so that it benefits farmers and contributes to the development of the district. The Agriculture Unit at both the District and Sector levels works closely with farmers by providing guidance on how to improve their farming practices. In addition, there are various programs that support farmers’ cooperatives as well as individual farmers in their daily agricultural activities.
LIVESTOCK FARMING:
Residents of Burera District raise both small livestock (such as goats, sheep, and others) and large livestock (cattle). At the District and Sector levels, livestock officers provide guidance and technical advice to livestock cooperatives and individual farmers in order to help them increase milk production.
